SPECIFICATIONS FOR GOULDING AND WOOD ORGAN- CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL, NEW ORLEANS

HISTORY:

Christ Church P.E. was founded in the early 1800's.. The first church building was an octagonal brick building. An organ was built for that edifice by William M. Goodrich (dated 1820). The disposition of that organ is unknown.

In 1837, a second building was constructed. A Henry Erben organ of three manuals and 18 stops was installed in that facility, Some nine years later, the congregation constructed yet a third building, and the second church, complete with organ, was sold to a Jewish Synagogue.

In 1847, a George Jardine and Son organ was acquired.

1887: The present structure was built. The Jardine was refurbished and moved to the new building.

1922: A new organ, by M.P. Moller (Opus 3314) was built. It incorporated 866 pipes of the original Jardine.

1982: Tonal revisions by John Ballard

1983-86: Goulding and Wood - Tonal revisions with total of 96 ranks.

RECORDS ALSO INDICATE THAT THE CHAPEL OF CHRIST CHURCH HAD A SECOND JARDINE, DATING TO 1887, WHICH WAS REMOVED DURING A 19th CENTURY RENOVATION. DISPOSITION OF THIS ORGAN REMAINS A MYSTERY.
