Although
Our Lady Of The Gulf officially falls outside of the New Orleans area,
it is of historical significance both because of its proximity to New
Orleans, and because many New Orleanians frequented the Bay St. Louis
area. Many families possessed or rented summer homes on the coast and
therefore attended and supported this church. Additionally, the presence
of Catholic boarding schools, operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph and
the Brothers of The Sacred Heart, drew many children of New Orleans families,
and their visiting parents, to this beautiful church. We have decided
to include it because it will certainly be recognized by many of our viewers.
